Self-defense today

In my opinion self-defense today is missing the mark.
Many self-defense programs teach you, "When the bad guy attacks you, instead of becoming a victim you are going to turn it around on them and destroy them instead."

Now this sounds so cool and marketing wise it's probably perfect, however the one problem is that it's not very realistic.

If someone is trying to attack you, your main goal should be to survive.
It's really that simple.

Destroying the opposition is a totally different matter.
Think about it this way, the best time to attack your opponent is when they are vulnerable and weak.
On the flip side the worst time to attack your opponent is when you are vulnerable and weak.
If the bad guy chose you to be his victim, chances are they saw that you were vulnerable and weak.

So what self-defense programs today are pitching is to magically destroy the bad guy when you are vulnerable and weak.
It really doesn't make any sense, unless the bad guy was a total idiot.

So what I'm saying is that if you truly want to destroy the bad guy it should be done on another day, not when you are being attacked.

When you are being attacked not only should survival be the main objective, it is the most realistic option.

Let's think of the different possibilities.
From easiest to hardest

1) Survival
2) Escape
3) Damaging the opponent
4) Defeating the opponent
5) Turning the opponent into your friend
