HIDEOUS! from Full Moon

1997 film review by Wmpyr

I was really looking forward to seeing this film because I saw Head of the Family and I really enjoyed it. I couldn't believe it when once again, I saw this gem at my grocery store. Like Head of the Family Jacqueline Lovell is a stand out, it was also nice to see Mel Johnson Jr. the cab driver from Total Recall in this film as an eccentric rich person. I still think Head of the Family is better, but this one was also very enjoyable for me, I liked how it starts off with sewage cleaners talking about unusual findings, and then I liked the simple plot, a collector of preserved human oddities basically gets his purchase stolen, so he and his cohorts rush into the suspects "castle" and that is when the puppet monster like creatures escape and the mayhem begins! I would put this in my top 10 Full Moon horror films list.

2009 film review by Wmpyr

Less than 1.5 stars out of 5 on Netflix, 3.9/10 on IMDB, sounds like a really terrible film. I have to disagree with everyone and say that it was more than alright, oh yeah I enjoyed it. It tries hard to present to you the industrial unground music type scene, and I think they succede. The "monsters" look cool, the gore scenes actually have some decent special effects for a B-movie. The characters are absolutely obsessed with sex, and that is pretty annoying for me but it did create some funny dialog, sadly it also made for some lame dialog too. I like that it's a combination flick, you have the ravenous vampire like women which could be a film on it's own, and you have the large sweatshop "Beast" guy. Sometimes it feels like a movie where the monsters are hunting the human victims while in some scenes the Beast acts like he is from a torture film, but they also show his POV which in some ways is like Predator. The film gets really satisfying at the end when The Beast shows up at a rave dance. All in all some pretty cool stuff going on here, I enjoyed it, I liked it.

Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan

Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan
2013 film review by Wmpyr

I really liked the start of this film even though the monster Paul Bunyan looked like a cheap rubber suit, it was better than some cheap CGI. This film reminded me a little bit of Killjoy 2 with the delinquents heading out for the woods type story, the drill Sgt. definitely put an interesting touch to it. After that it starts to go downhill once we learn that Paul Bunyan now is huge, I mean like 2 stories tall, and we have bad CGI. If they had kept him "small" there would have been less need to use the cheap looking CGI effects and I think this story would have been cool, like an updated Eegah! campy comedic horror. I was disappointed in this film and I don't recommend it, on the flip side I think the director can only get better, it definitely had potential.

Puppet Master X: Axis Rising
2012 film review by Wmpyr

Unexpectedly I saw this movie at my local grocery store I just had to jump on it! I've been wanting to see this for a long time now and finally I get the chance. I really liked Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge, where they did an origins story and set it back in WWII Germany. That was back in 1991, way later on 2010 they made Puppet Master: Axis of Evil. Not as good as Puppet Master III or some of the other titles, I still thought it was interesting. It took us back to WWII era, and Axis Rising is a direct sequel to Axis of Evil. Sadly I have to say that Axis of Evil is better because of story alone. The Axis of Evil story was where the Japanese Dragon Lady and German Nazi team up on US soil and get foiled by our unlikely but patriotic hero armed with the Puppets. His brother gets turned into a new puppet, a Ninja. Now they seemed to realize that Axis Rising wasn't going to be as good, so they made it up by bringing in more Puppets, which was very smart of them, and for that reason alone I think this film is an ok addition to the franchise. Not only do they bring back Six Shooter, we also have enemy Puppets. Overall the film is not as well made as Axis of Evil, but it's campier and that maybe more appealing to some.
